Developer to unveil new plans for shopping mall
Walton town centre developer O&H will unveil it's long-awaited plans to the community at an exhibition to be held within weeks. The firm announced it was to submit its long-awaited designs to Elmbridge council for approval by the end of this week. People can expect to see a refined version of the original plans submitted by previous developer Frogmore which pulled out of the project last year. The plans for phase two of the multimillion pound project.
The scheme is set to transform the shabby shopping centre which has been left to wrack and ruin following frustrating catalogue of set-backs. Alison Allen, property developer for O&H said the firm which took over the project in November 2003, had appointed a team of professional designers to create the amended plans. Ms Allen said they would be sent to Elmbridge council before the end of February. She added "The revised plans seek to honour the concept of the existing schemes. Once a formal application is made, we will be sharing our new plans with the local community at a public exhibition to be held.
"We are working closely with the council and we look forward to starting the development, creating a new heart for the community of Walton-on-Thames."
It is expected that building work on a shopping mall and shops would be completed and ready for business by Christmas 2005.
The 265 flats included in the scheme, of which 67 would be affordable, would be ready by the end of the following year if everything goes to plan.
