New heart for an old town

Walton-on-Thames.org is extremely pleased to break the news that the new town centre scheme has been named "The Heart".

O&H Properties announced that “The Heart” had been chosen as the name for the new
Walton-on-Thames town centre scheme on the 24 Janurary 2005. The brand was launched today with new hoardings and a dedicated website (www.theheartofwalton.com) and heralds the start of an ongoing marketing campaign. The name reflects the developments importance in regenerating the town centre and the place in which it’s been designed to become – the heart of Walton-on-Thames.

It will offer a new retailing experience housing some of the key names in retail, quality restaurants and cafes and 279 contemporary one to three bedroom apartments. It is set to transform Walton-on-Thames giving its residents a town centre they can be proud of.

Alison Allen, Property Director of O&H comments:
“The Heart is a contemporary name that echoes the modern design and concept of a scheme set to re-energise the town centre. It will offer a wide range of retailers and restaurants significantly boosting Walton’s attraction as a place to live and visit. Over the next few months we will see much progress on site with the concrete frame coming out of the ground and we look forward to opening the retail in Summer 2006 with phased handover of the residential to follow.”

Mike Lockwood, Chief Executive of Elmbridge Borough Council, said:
“Tremendous progress has been made in recent months towards the regeneration and revitalisation of the town centre. It's an exciting time and we look forward to working with O&H to making Walton on Thames one of our premier centres.”

On Saturday 15 January the first sign of the construction phase of the redevelopment appeared upon Walton's skyline. A giant crane is now visible from almost everywhere in central Walton. Photographs to follow.
