Controversial changes to the redevelopment plan put forward
O&H, the developers currently building the new town centre redevelopment have been criticisms after putting forward controversial changes to the scheme.
According to the local press, O&H have asked the local council for permission to demolish the mock Tudor building formerly inhabited by the Dorothy Perkins clothes store. It was originally planned that the buildings facade would be retained and would act as a linkway between the High Street and The Heart (shopping centre). O&H's plans propose that a new glass and steel building be constructed in its place.
The plans have attracted much attention with a petition signed by over 360 people submitted to the planning committee. The level of complaints have persuaded the committee to refer the matter to the councils full planning committee.
The plan submitted by O&H, were described as "announcing The Heart on the High Street".
The plans will now be considered by the full committee.
